This is by far one of my favorite places in manhattan.

I love coming here with my friends and we always get to try new games and end up staying for 5+ hours.

They have classics from Monopoly, Jenga, and Uno to other board games like Dead of Winter, Fluxx, Settlers of Catan.

This place is certainly one of the most unique coffee hangouts in Manhattan. (Hence the name.) it has a very homie feel to it and there are an ungodly number of board games on the wall for the playing. Coffee is good, searing is good, wifi is good and they have a bathroom. Score.

“Board Game Paradise” – If I could give Uncommons a 10 star rating, I would!! It is SUCH a fun place to go. My husband and I love to discover new games, and the folks who work here always have something new and different to suggest, no matter what our interests are. We also like the vibe – sometimes it’s just nice to get out of our apartment and meet other people who enjoy playing games as much as we do.

This is my new favorite place to hang out.

They also serve a good selection of beer, which is great for you geeky beer lovers who enjoy a good game of LOTR/Munchkin Quest.

Beware: it gets crowded. Unique spots like these get plugged up all the time. Plan ahead.

5/5

The Uncommons is one of the few places in New York where you can busily occupy yourself for hours, late into the night, without getting that uneasy feeling you get when sitting and sucking up free wifi at Starbucks.

In short, it’s cozy and welcoming and you’ll want to stay all day playing board games and drinking coffee or beer.

Their selection of games is extensive, especially if you like Settlers of Catan. We also played Jenga, Don’t Break The Ice, and a few others. All for $5 per person per day. A great place to test out games before you buy and also great for groups or a sober night out.

Can’t really say anything bad about the place other than that it’s always really busy for obvious reasons.

We rented out the side room for a birthday party and had a blast… huge game selection & great beer list, great for a low key but fun hang!

5/5

I came here with a friend, and it was great. It’s $5 per person for what I think is unlimited game play. The guy who worked there was very helpful in suggesting fun new games for us to try. It was quite packed, but he still found a place to seat us.

Besides super friendly and helpful employees, this place has a really chill vibe, and they have every board game that I could possibly think of. I really enjoyed my time here.

This is the perfect coffee shop! if I ever did own a coffee shop this is how its going to be. For 5$ you can rent any game and play as long as you want. The people who work here are very helpful and friendly. If you want to just sit among the 100s of games and have a coffee with your friends thats fine too. They also have a 2 beers per person policy which I found adorable. No one wants a drunk person at the table when you are trying to win at Taboo. We stumbled upon this place after dinner, can’t wait to go again.

[I]f you’re looking for a spot to enjoy some games with friends, I can’t suggest this more. It’s a smallish cafe with a few rooms, some tables and a wall to floor of board games. On the left are the ones you can play and one the right are the ones you can buy if you liked playing any of them so much.

Its $5 for all you can play, and they mean it. We played and left for dinner and came back and played again, all under the same entrance. The staff are very friendly and will help you pick out a game if you don’t know what to play.

It’s super nerdy, but in this age of the nerd, it also kind of rules. Enjoy your game.

Cool little gaming spot. A great spot to play just about any board game you could think of from common to obscure. There are several tables of different sizes fitting the amount of players a group would need. There are some snacks and drinks but not a resturant. The staff are very friendly and the prices to play are pretty good. If you’re looking to play some games that you may or may not have with friends or even randoms this may be the place to do it.

Really cool concept- step in and for $5 (+tax), UNLIMITED BOARD GAMES! The walls of this small cafe are packed with different kinds of board games- not just your everyday Monopoly or Game of Life (but I’m sure they have them), but many sorts of new/rare board/card games.

Its a very small space, so try to avoid really crowded times- you may have to wait for a table! Also, they have special game nights where events are held for specific games. P.S. THEY HAVE BEER

Self-proclaimed board game geek and I’m not even the slightest bit ashamed of it. I honestly couldn’t even tell ya how many hours of sleep I’ve lost from staying up all night trading sheep for wheat and buying damn expensive coal just to power my power plants. So when I heard about this place opening up, it was honestly like the mountain calling out to Mohammed. The journey to this board game cafe was my pilgrimage.

…I’ve been back at least a dozen more times. I mean, they have Star Trek Settlers of Catan. STAR TREK. CATAN.

Yo I LOVE this place. If I lived in NY I would probably be here all the time. My friends and I came on a rainy Saturday afternoon and decided to spend our afternoon playing my new favorite board game–Munchkins!

The concept of this place is pretty neat… It’s basically a board game cafe. You pay $5/person to sit in this cafe for however long you want. You can order cafe food or even alcohol should you choose to. They have a ridiculously large collection of board games. It’s literally just any game you can possibly imagine plus a million other ones that you’ve never heard of.

I found the store easily and it was pretty packed. There were a lot of people just sitting around having a great time. The counter staff were very friendly and we were in and out quicker than I would have liked (we liked the atmosphere and probably would have stayed if we weren’t rushing to the event where said gift was needed).

5/5

This place is a New York City treasure. You pay $5 cover to play any of the 300+ games available (or 2 train swipes). They have a decent selection of coffee, teas, sodas and some snackable foods as well. It’s a small shop and Friday-Sun afternoons are packed, so look for some week nights to go to have more space. The baristas are really friendly and fun and can explain the rules to some of the games for you.

5/5

One of my favorite places to meet with friends! Just a $5 fee and you can use any of their board/card/tabletop games. You can even buy cafe drinks or get some small food here as well. I usually spend a few hours at The Uncommons – more than worth the price!

5/5

NERDS, NERDS, NERDS and NERD CONVERSATIONS! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT because I am a nerd.

This place is amazing. It’s a safe haven for all the board game lovers to geek out in.

…The only con about this place is that it’s extremely hard to find seats so most likely you will be waiting around for a couple of minutes with hawk eyes.

[T]hey make the best Mocha in the city… The time spent there was probably one of the best times spent out in the city. Its a genius idea to make a board game cafe, where you can play unlimited number of games for unlimited number of time with almost unlimited number of friends, sipping some coffee or tea or juice. They also serve food. I think we spend four or five hours there, and the time passed by so fast and with so much fun!

5/5

A great alternative to staying home and having a game night with friends. The snacks are good and the place is very comfortable. A very enjoyable afternoon or evening.

5/5

Smallish cafe – HUGE BOARD GAME COLLECTION. For a grand total of $5 you can basically spend your entire day there playing any of their board games (from Monopoly to Settlers of Catan to Ticket to Ride to Chinese checkers) with your friends.

5/5

The Uncommons is a coffee shop with big wooden tables and nice coffee which makes it a nice place for a break from hard sightseeing and a warming escape from cold December weather, so far so conventional, especially in Greenwich, NYC. What makes The Uncommons special is that it is all about board games – hundreds, maybe thousands of them – that you can borrow to play there or just look at with wonderment at how many there are. This is a great place just to have a coffee and enjoy being in somewhere quirky and offbeat and perfectly New York.

5/5

If you’re a board game fanatic, The Uncommons is a fantastic place for you! $5 for unlimited play time ($10 unlimited or $5/hour on Saturdays) makes it a steal.

In addition, they offer a variety of microwaveable products that you know you shouldn’t be eating (e.g. Bagel Bites), coffee/tea, and beer/cider (2 drink max).

There are games for sale as well (if you’re looking for some fun to take home).

5/5

Don’t know who came up with the idea of a cafe where you can play board games but I want to shake his hand. This is one of if not the my favorite place in the city now. You come in, pay $5 and play as many games as you want the whole day. Number of games is huge.
